The programs offered in spring admission help universities to accommodate more students at one time, since winter graduates leaving the university make space in the hostels and classrooms for more students.
As a spring freshman,
you will graduate in winter. There are many students who do not want to take
classes in summer but prefer to take them in their fall semester (although they
want to graduate in the spring), there is also an option of taking summer classes.
However, spring/summer courses are very costly than courses being offered in
the regular academic semester but they are shorter and more compact than
semester classes.
If you observe closely there is not much difference between
spring freshman and fall students in the class as they both sit next to each
other and there is no difference. Although the fall freshmen will have been
taking classes at the university for a semester before the spring freshmen got
there, because of a great amount of variation in most people’s university
schedules, this has a minimum outcome on overall performance.
Also if you have to take science subjects, you need to
follow a strict course sequence and starting in the spring may put you at a
difficulty since you’ll have to wait until the fall semester before any science
subject is offered again. The admission officials are very understanding for
spring freshmen and will help them to work around this change. They help
students talk to them first before making an academic decision on what to do
with your fall semester.
The spring admission cycle is usually slow as compare to
fall freshmen who have gone through one semester by the time students have come
in spring. Such students find it difficult to break into existing social
circles. They often bond very closely and are small in numbers who are going
through the same experience.
Orientation events held in honor of spring intake are more
relaxed and intimate as opposed to the icebreakers and large groups during fall
orientation. The students who take admission in spring enjoy participating in
extracurricular activities as it is an interesting way to meet new people and
make great friends. They become indistinguishable after a few months of getting
to know the school.
One major advantage of being a spring freshman is the
flexibility it gives you---you have three months to do anything you want. Many
people call it a gap year, where they explore pursuit and try to do internships
to build their resume. Some choose to stay closer to home for a little longer.
This also gives you freedom with your fall semester while still ensuring that
you join a school that you like. The financial aid factor works a little
differently for spring freshmen. The fall freshmen are allowed financial and
allocation processes more comfortably and merit-based scholarship is reserved
for them. Whichever university you decide to join-it is possible for a spring
freshman to succeed in university as a fall freshman, and the semester you take
doesn’t predict your future success. You need to keep in mind that spring
admissions programs are definitely an amazing way to gain a little more life
experience before going off for higher studies.
Good Luck
